On Friday the 24th of May, RIJ Students participated in the first charity event this semester, “Executive Fight Night,” a boxing game held at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Roppongi. Filled with auctions, raffles, heated up boxing matches, dance performances and heartfelt speeches, it certainly was a night to remember.
The students helped sell raffle tickets, baby kits and assisted in the auction. Asking for donations is not always a fun job, especially on a night where people are there to enjoy their drinks, boxing games and good company. As volunteers I feel it is our job to make it as painless as possible for our guests to donate; tell them specifically where the money is going, how precious our projects are, how they have hearts of gold for saving a baby/child/refugee, how beautiful they look, etc. 🙂 It is important to remember our place as a charity organization at an event dedicated to entertainment first and foremost, and to realize that a certain percentage of people will simply be unwilling to participate, but be grateful that many are. In the end, an amazing 7.5million yen was donated.
Overall it was a fantastic and exciting opportunity for us to volunteer and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my first ever boxing game. Thank you all Alisha Drumm, Demi Yubin, Rika Maeda, Sara Ariafar and Xie Yi for volunteering, RIJ for letting us participate, GinjaNinjas for planning the beautiful event (the next one is in November!), and all the lovely guests who helped us raise money. Looking forward to the next one.
