This surely is an exciting time to be a member of RIJ-Students!

There are many events coming up, and the students will play an active role in making these events possible. Most notably, there are three major events: 1) an RIJ Classrooms event, 2) Journey to Hope, and 3) Tree of Hope.

1) In early November, members of RIJ-Students will visit Junten School in Oji, and provide an opportunity for middle school and high school students to get to know more about the various issues refugees worldwide face, everyday. The students will incorporate various games and activities to make the class as exciting as possible, while allowing Junten students to learn more about refugees and to understand their situations better.

2) Journey to Hope, which will take place on the 19th and 20th of November at Aka Renga Park in Yokohama, will be a great opportunity to tell lots of people about what RIJ does, raise public awareness of various refugee issues, as well as have fun with games and performances. This year, the students will be in charge of ‘The Journey’, which will take participants on an educational ‘journey’ through the eyes of a refugee. During the journey, participants will be able to see what it feels like to be a refugee, all the while becoming a near expert on the subject, by taking part in quizzes made by the students. There will also be a human beat box performance by James, a member of RIJ-Students!

3) Last but not least, there will be the Tree of Hope event. It will take place sometime in early December, and as it is an event to “light up the life of a refugee child,” it will appropriately be organized by a student. James, an intern at RIJ and member of RIJ-Students, will chair the event, coordinating and organizing the entire event. Princess Akishino will open the event, which is very exciting news for everyone.

The students are extremely excited to take part in all these amazing events, and are working hard to make them as exciting as possible. More updates and pictures to come!

  1. Great to hear you guys are making some substantial progress as a team. I’ll be looking forward to hear about how the events go!

Keep up the great work. As always, let me know if there is anything I can do to help remotely.

  2. I think it’s fantastic that the Tree of Hope is going to be organized entirely by students this year. How fitting! Good luck to everyone with all the events!

  3. I am so excited to see the results because we all are working hard on it and every one getting ready to do their best in these events!
