Tree of Hope 2011

Last year's Tree

For many years Refugees International Japan’s ‘Light Up the Life of a Refugee Child’ campaign has been an integral part of the festive season in Tokyo.  At this seasonal event, held during the week of 5 December, a 30-foot fir tree will be decorated at Oazo in Marunouchi and young musicians and singers will perform a seasonal concert – making this an event ‘For Children, By Children’.

In previous years we have been honored that Her Imperial Highness Akishinomiya has then performed a ceremonial tree lighting, to raise awareness of the plight of children affected by conflict. These children have got caught up in the insecurity and dangers of a problem that should not be their concern, and should be playing, studying and enjoying the thrills of growing up, rather than living in insecurity and hardship.

We expect this year’s event to be as wonderful and magical as previous years, so please keep watching for more details.

CALL FOR ACTION: Refugees International Japan is looking for a chair for this event.  There is an existing committee with excellent knowledge of the event from previous years, so please get in touch if you have the ability to co-ordinate this project. To register your interest (or for more information) please contact Anne: anne@refugeesinternationaljapan.org
